Regarding Love Magic City Chorus!
I moved to Canada from the UK with my husband and two kids and didn't know a soul, so joining Magic City Chorus was a great way for me to meet new people and as it has turned out, to make lifelong friendships.
Every rehearsal every week is a voice lesson, always learning something new about singing. I didn't realize that there was so much to it too! I have always loved to sing; as a child I sang in the school choirs and in the church choir but I had never sung a cappella barbershop so this was a challenge for me which I love. This kind of singing is definitely an art form.
I know that since joining in 2011 my singing has improved immensely and my knowledge of music too. Every week I know I am improving, I love the harmonies when all four parts come together on the risers. There is nothing like it!
I recently have been given the opportunity to try out singing with a quartet within the chorus. I have always wanted to try but my nerves sometimes get the better of me. I've been told that “nerves” are a good thing; it means you care. I'm hoping this will improve my confidence and help with the nerves.
I am also a member of the Management Team. Being on this team, a person gets to see the hard work that goes on beyond the singing to keep this chorus going and together. I've been the Membership Coordinator for a few years, so I'm the lucky one who gets to meet with potential new members and “brag” about how great it is to be a member of Magic City Chorus.
I have been in Canada for 15 years and a member of Magic City for almost as long. I love this organization with a passion and I know I will continue for as long as I am able to do so.
